The Ridgemont Executive Motel is centrally located in the heart of Townsville, North Queensland.

The motel has stunning bay views from both its suites and the licensed alfresco restaurant and bar. It is a short stroll to our magnificent beaches, and a shaded tropical pool, BBQ facilities and tour desk are all on site.

Most of our units are self-contained Executive and Deluxe motel suites complete with kitchenettes and air-conditioning. Complimentary wireless broadband is also available for corporate and business guests.

The Ridgemont is located in a quiet location however it is within walking distance to The Strand, Townsville's CBD, restaurant strip Palmer Street, and nightlife (Flinders Street East), and is central to Townsville's main attractions.

The Strand Waterpark

Within walking distance from The Ridgemont Executive Motel towards the beach you will find one of Townsville's most popular attractions, The Strand Waterpark. This water playground is located on The Strand and is absolutely free! A children's playground, BBQ's, picnic tables, grassy play areas, public toilet amenities and parking are all there! This is a fantastic place to take the children when it is "stinger season" and beach swimming is not recommended.

The traditional capital of North Queensland, Townsville is located in the dry tropics, approximately 380Km South of Cairns.

Dominated by the back drop of rugged Castle Hill, framed by Cleveland Bay and the Magnificent Strand beach front recreation area, with the ever present majestic Magnetic Island a stones throw across the bay, Townsville is a picturesque city with a lot to offer.

It has a great variety of attractions both natural and man made and with a population of over 165,000 there are lots of "city things". Pubs, clubs, restaurants, recreational areas, parks & gardens etc, but it also sits in a unique position, providing an ideal climate for travellers.

Townsville's central location allows a wide variety of experiences to be enjoyed by all, activities such as:

Great Barrier Reef
A wide range of tours and diving trips available all along the North Queensland coast.

Magnetic Island
Visible from the Ridgemont Motel, beautiful Magnetic Island offers stunning scenery with picturesque bays, white sandy beaches connected by a quiet road network running around the Eastern side of the island. Only 20 minutes by ferry, located near Jupiters Casino and only a few minutes drive from the Ridgemont Motel, across the bay with a population of some 2,000 residents spread across five small villages. The majority of the island is National Park Land with many walking trails and lots of opportunity to spot a Koala. A bus service meets all ferries and the drivers provide interesting commentary on the history, lifestyle and points of interest. Alternatively you can rent a moke, pushbike or scooter and drive yourself around the island, but be warned it's hilly.


Environmental Attractions
Perhaps your interests lie in the natural beauty, that surrounds us.

  • The Strand offers white sandy beaches, fenced off swimming areas, a man-made pool called "The Rock Pool", play equipment, eateries and restuarants and the fantastic Water Playground as well as a toddler playground.
  • Pallarenda regularly has displays of kiteboarding and is a large stretch of tropical beach with views to Magnetic Island.
  • Castle Hill dominates Townsville with the city built around its base, it is a dramatic backdrop to the city and offers great walking tracks for the energetic and magnificent panoramic views.
  • The Town Common Environmental Park is a large wetland area that is home to a wide variety of birdlife.
  • The ranges of Paluma provide a totally different environment with lush rainforests and cool clear swimming holes, walking tracks, BBQ areas and village shops providing refreshments and arts and crafts.
  • Mount Spec just South of the city is another National Park area offering a totally different experience and an opportunity to have close contact with the many kangaroos that inhabit the area and for the large part are indifferent to the many visitors who use the area.
  • Within the city confines there are also a range of parks and gardens including Queens Gardens the Norths longest established Botanical Gardens and the Palmetum, a garden dedicated to palm trees providing the worlds largest public display of palm trees.
  • Alligator Creek picnic park, waterfall and swimming hole is 20 minutes south of Townsville and is surrounded by picturesque scrubland
  • Rolling Stone and Crystal Creek swimming holes is a great place to visit on a hot humid day in the Tropics.


Other local towns
Visit Charters Towers for an outback experience. Approx 1 hour drive west from Townsville.
Mission Beach boasts long stretches of white sandy beaches with gorgeous rainforest right up to the edge of the sand. Mission Beach is a 3 hour drive north from Townsville.
Cairns is a popular tourist destination with many diving trips and reef cruises operating out of their ports. Approx 4 hours north of Townsville.
Port Douglas is approximately 5hours north of Townsville.


Billabong Sanctuary
Just South of Townsville's city, Billabong Sanctuary is a wildlife park showing off the wild and wonderful. Ideal for families and children.

The Strand
Enjoy the Strand beachfront with its 3Km of beachside pathway, playgrounds, including a fantastic water playground that provides great entertainment for those who watch as well as the kids who play, BBQ areas, cafes, restaurants, swimming and recreational areas. Night or day the locals love it and we are sure you will to!!


Reef HQ
Reef HQ has the world's largest living coral aquarium. Reef HQ is a tourist attraction, research centre, education centre and home to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The aquarium houses living coral and a selection of marine life typical of those species that live on the reef off Townsville. Tide and wave actions are simulated and nutrients grown so that this enclosed eco system is self supporting. Daily shark feeding and other activities are also on at the centre. Open daily and is located in the heart of Townsville city.


The Museum of Tropical North Queensland
Home to the Pandora shipwreck display is another must see item. The museum has a range of displays depicting geological and human history of North Queensland but the major display tells the Pandora shipwreck story and houses the associated artifacts. This is a brilliant display providing interesting stories for young and old, whether they have an interest in history or not.


Riverway Centre
The Riverway Centre has been developed in Kirwan and offers an art gallery, play equipment for the children, an auditorium and theatre, cafe dining, walkway along the Ross River, and various swimming pools for all ages. All of these are free entry to the public.

Other Local Attractions
Other local activities in the area include the Cotters Markets held in Flinders Mall every Sunday, sporting events, theatre, golf, bowling, night clubs and general entertainment and festivals including the world renowned Australian Festival of Chamber Music held over a two week period in July each year, NBL and NRL matches, and so much more.
